Nowadays all hip-hop seems to be is how much hype you can get behind an album that in reality is a complete and utter sack of shit. This album is no different. We are winding down the year 2012 and after much anticipation we get the debut album of the MMG jewel, Meek Mill.
Calling Meek a jewel was honestly hard for me. It causes me physical pain to say anything positive about the kid, because then I'm advocating for the "let's destroy hip-hop" movement.... Lets just move along.
1.Dreams and Nightmares
First of all, this is not an intro. This is just a song that happens to lead off the album. It has always been a pet peeve of mine that the first track on an album is automatically referred to as an intro. This song starts with Meek screaming quietly over some piano. When he screams, "yall thought I was finished" I turned my music nearly to mute, knowing that he was about to destroy my ear drums with his dumb ass rambling. This is what kids consider, "going hard", but talking louder and faster does not in any way mean that it's better. In fact it is just more annoying, track one comes to a close, and I've already lost my faith in an entire genre.
2.In God We Trust
I bet you 20 bucks this songs about money, wow I was right. People will do anything for money. You all remember the song "Poe N**** Blues" by Pac. I know that isn't the first one, but we get it, gangsters love money. Now shut the hell up and come up with something original.
3.Young & I'm Gettin' it
Now we see the same problem I had with the last track, it sucks, but at least they made an effort to make this song enjoyable unlike the first two scream fests by Meek. Look, I dont't like this song, but I may be able to see why one would. It's catchy with the Kirko Bangz hook, with an average beat. Unfortunately I'd rather hear this than the first two tracks, emphasis on unfortunately.
4.Traumatized
I had to listen to this song to review it, I couldn't just go off of what i thought the song would be like. In reality, my review for this song is exactly the same either way. Another slow paced song, which screams disaster for this young rapper, who in my mind is only bearable when making club hits. I am baffled why anyone likes this guy.
5. Believe It
Somebody lied I got a chopper in the car. Wait, this isn't John. Wow. Rick Ross shows just how little variation he is capable of. This is bearable compared to that last piece of shit that I forced myself to listen to, but after mediocre verses from both rappers, I'm still questioning this guys fan base.
6. Maybach Curtains
This song isn't bad. It is pretty cliche but after a pretty lame hook courtesy of the greatest voice in R&B, Meek Mill delivers a decent verse. NaS is able to really pick up the song, which could just be a personal bias, but this is what I see as the best verse on the album. What this song didn't need was Rick Ross. As far as big fatty goes this verse wasn't bad at all, but after NaS it did nothing to make the song better.
7. Amen
Now this song really sucks. I'm not kidding this shit is just awful. This is the reason parents say hip-hop is trash, cause this shit is trash. I am in no way a Drake fan, but seriously? This guy is the hope for the hip-hop genre? If he is the best the game has to offer then the game is really damn bad.
8. Young Kids
I can't tell if I've listened to 900 songs or 1 long ass song. Every track on this drink coaster of an album songs exactly the same, which is unfortunate considering they are all terrible. This song manages to keep up the trend of sounding exactly like every other song, go ahead and skip it.
9. Lay Up
Is it normal to laugh out loud at how bad a song is. I have to put this out there, I am generally a fan of Wale, so it pains me to see him with this group of wanna-be 2pacs. He isn't great on this song, but he sounds miles better than his MMG buddies. And what is a song about sex without Trey Songz. This guy just really likes having sex, and making bad music.
10.Tony Story Pt. 2
This song is so similar to half the album that I have nothing more to say about it.
11.Who You're Around
Let me get a personal disliking out of the way and say, I hate Mary J. I can't really give an opinion on the hook, cause I just don't think Mary J. is very good at all. I just want everyone to know that Meek Mill isn't going hard on this album, and talking about bad things in his life isn't being lyrical. I am a huge fan of lyrics, and this guy's aren't any good.
12. Polo and Shell Tops
Every time a song has opened with piano I cringe a little. Here comes another emotional song about how Meek started from the bottom, his life used to suck now it's awesome. That last sentence damn near sums up every song that doesn't have a feature.
13.Rich & Famous
A hip-hop love ballad, gotta love it, wait no you don't! This song is terrible. Not the bad that you've heard from the rest of the album, cause this has been really bad thus far, but this makes me regret talking bad about the rest of the album, that's how awful it is. I threw my $300 pair of headphones strait across the room and I'm going to bed, I'll finish tomorrow. Holy shit this song sucks.
14. Real N***** Come First
It took me a long time to get over that last track, and I was hoping we could end on a good note. Now it is not often that a filler track is put at the end of an album, but hey, this is a Meek Mill album. I mean 30 seconds after the albums ending you won't remember the final track at all
Rating: 1/5
This album is terrible. It is disgusting how an album like this can get all the hype in the world, and that people will buy into the hype, and actually pass this piece of garbage as a good album. This album doesn't have a redeeming quality that makes me think, ehh, maybe it's just not my style, it just sucks. Meek Mill made millions off this album, and the MMG empire continues to thrive, only furthering the destruction of a genre that I love. This is a piece of shit album, that is nothing more than loud beats accompanied by a screaming lunatic that you all continue to buy. The fact that this is popular makes me judge all of you, and whether you agree with this review or not, I don't care, this album is a piece of shit.
